Biography

Bryan Webler joined the Carnegie Mellon faculty in 2013 as a Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and currently serves as the Co-Director of the Center for Iron and Steelmaking Research. His research concentrates on process metallurgy, exploring key areas such as chemical reactions in liquid steel refining, non-metallic inclusion characterization and control, as well as continuous casting and additive manufacturing techniques like laser powder bed fusion. Before his academic appointment, Bryan worked as a Senior Engineer in the Materials Technology department of the Bettis Atomic Laboratory. He holds a B.S. in Engineering Physics from the University of Pittsburgh, an M.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, and a Ph.D. in the same field from Carnegie Mellon. He is actively involved in research and has received the Kent D. Peaslee Junior Faculty Award from the Association of Iron and Steel Technology Foundation. His commitment to advancing the field also includes serving as a key reader for Metallurgical and Materials Transactions B and as an associate editor for Metallurgical Research and Technology.
