Biography

Bryan Webler joined the faculty at Carnegie Mellon University in 2013 as a Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and serves as Co-Director of the Center for Iron and Steelmaking Research. His research focuses on process metallurgy, including chemical reactions in liquid steel refining, non-metallic inclusion characterization, continuous casting of steel, and additive manufacturing techniques such as laser powder bed fusion and powder-feed direct energy deposition. Prior to joining Carnegie Mellon, Dr. Webler worked as a Senior Engineer in the Materials Technology department at the Bettis Atomic Laboratory from 2008 to 2013. He has received numerous accolades, including the Kent D. Peaslee Junior Faculty Award from the Association for Iron and Steel Technology. Additionally, he contributes as a Key Reader for Metallurgical and Materials Transactions B and serves as an associate editor for Metallurgical Research & Technology. His work includes developing advanced alloys and exploring sustainable practices within the steel industry, particularly in the Pittsburgh area.
