Dr. Bryce Dietrich

Biography

Bryce Dietrich is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at Purdue University. He also serves as the Director of the Computational Social Science Lab and is a research scholar at the Center for C-SPAN Scholarship Engagement (CCSE). His research focuses on American Politics and Methodology, employing innovative quantitative and automated methods, particularly machine learning, to analyze non-traditional data sources such as audio and video data. Professor Dietrich's work explores the causes and consequences of non-verbal cues, vocal inflections, and walking trajectories, especially in relation to elite political behavior. His publications have appeared in prestigious journals including Nature, the American Political Science Review, the Journal of Politics, Political Analysis, and Political Psychology. He has received grant support from major organizations such as the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation. His expertise has also been featured in popular media outlets including NPR, BBC, and the Washington Post. Professor Dietrich earned his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois and has previously held a postdoctoral research fellowship at Harvard's Kennedy School and Northeastern University.
