Biography

Bryce C. Tingle, LL.B, LL.M, holds the N. Murray Edwards Chair in Business Law at the University of Calgary. He is a member of the Alberta Securities Commission and the National Special Advisory Group of RCMP’s Integrated Market Enforcement Team, which investigates financial crimes. Tingle has worked as general counsel for companies in the technology and natural resource sectors and co-founded TingleMerrett LLP, focusing on securities, corporate finance, and growth companies. He earned his Master of Laws from Duke University and Osgoode, and his Bachelor of Laws from the University of Alberta. Tingle has served on various public, private, corporate, and charitable boards, including as a director of the Alberta Ballet. He has held positions such as Chair of the Business Law subsection of the Canadian Bar Association and Director of the Financial Regulation Programme at the School of Public Policy. He was recognized as one of the University of Calgary's Peak Scholars in 2014-2015 and won the Howard Tidswell Memorial Award for Teaching Excellence in 2019. His recent book, 'Hard Lessons in Corporate Governance,' is shortlisted for the prestigious Donner Prize in 2024.
