Dr. Buki Fatona

Biography

Buki Fatona is an Associate Member of the Faculty of Theology and Religion at the University of Oxford, where he conducts research in the philosophy of cognitive neuroscience and religion. He has a keen interest in how memory and imagination influence cognitive abilities, determining the motivations and actions of agents. As a Tutor in Christian Ethics and Postgraduate Programme Director at Ripon College Cuddesdon, he plays a significant role in shaping theological education. Dr. Fatona has a diverse academic background, holding degrees in Microbiology (BSc), Theology (BA), and Philosophy (MSc), culminating in a Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil) in Science and Religion under the supervision of Professor Alister McGrath. He is an ordained priest in the Church of England and has served as an Assistant Chaplain at Magdalen College, Oxford. Dr. Fatona's research explores the intersection of philosophy, cognitive science, and religion, focusing on how memory and imagination are understood across various historical contexts. He is also involved in several research projects, including as a Fellow at the Ian Ramsey Centre for Science and Religion. His recent publications discuss topics like cognitive neuroscience and its relation to theological concepts, contributing significantly to the discourse in these fields.
