Dr. Burcu Akinci

Biography

Burcu Akinci is a Professor and Dean at Carnegie Mellon University, affiliated with the College of Engineering. She is a distinguished member of the National Academies of Construction. Her research interests encompass modeling and reasoning with information-rich histories of buildings and infrastructure systems, aiming to streamline construction operations. Specifically, she investigates the utilization and integration of building information models, data capture technologies, and the application of 3D imaging and embedded sensors to create digital twins of construction projects. Her commitment to advancing proactive and predictive operations management in infrastructure is reflected in her extensive publication record, which includes over 70 refereed journal articles and 100 conference papers. As a principal investigator, she has secured more than $6 million in grants, and as a co-principal investigator, she has contributed to projects totaling more than $10 million, supporting federal and state agencies as well as industry partners. She has delivered over 100 invited presentations and co-edited significant works on CAD/GIS Integration and Embedded Commissioning.
