Biography

Byron Kuth, FAIA, is the design principal of Kuth Ranieri Architects. With midwestern roots, Byron moved east to study at the Rhode Island School of Design where he earned degrees in Fine Arts and Architecture. After graduating, he settled in the Bay Area and co-founded the bi-coastal firm Kuth Ranieri Architects with partner Liz Ranieri, FAIA. The firm has built a reputation for creating expressive, site-specific, sustainable architecture and planning design for a variety of project types including public parks, pavilions, community museums, and airports. Kuth has taught at notable institutions including California College of the Arts and Harvard Graduate School of Design, and he serves as the Friedman Professor in the Master of Architecture program at UC Berkeley's College of Environmental Design. The firm has received numerous accolades including AIA awards at local, regional, and national levels. Kuth was elevated to the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects in recognition of his contributions to the field. He has launched the Deep Green Design Alliance, a think tank focused on resiliency in Bay Area design, and serves on the advisory council for the Department of Architecture at RISD. He co-founded the LEF Foundation in the late eighties and continues to serve on its advisory board.
