Biography

Cæcilie Varslev-Pedersen is a Visiting Researcher at the Søren Kierkegaard Research Centre and holds a PhD in Philosophy from the New School for Social Research. Her research focuses on post-Kantian European philosophy, particularly the ethical, existential, educational, and political aspects of G.W.F. Hegel and Søren Kierkegaard's work. She is interested in feminist theory, aesthetics, and political philosophy, notably the works of Hannah Arendt. Her thematic work examines 19th and 20th-century critiques of modernity and the modern subject, analyzing how critiques shape the images of political and ethical futures. Cæcilie engages with theological concepts such as sacrifice, confession, and forgiveness within the secular moral discourse of Enlightenment modernity. Currently, she is set to hold a postdoctoral position at the University of Southampton from 2024 to 2026, teaching modern philosophy, continental philosophy, social and political philosophy, critical theory, existential philosophy, ethics, and aesthetics.
