Biography

C.-C. Jay Kuo earned his B.S. degree from National Taiwan University in 1980 and both M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1985. He began his career as a Research Assistant Professor at UCLA before joining the University of Southern California (USC) in January 1989. Currently, he is the Dean's Professor of Electrical Engineering at USC and Director of the Multimedia Communication Lab. Over the years, Kuo has become a recognized leader in the field of multimedia, with contributions in multimedia compression, communication, and content analysis. His lab has produced over 250 journal papers, 900 conference papers, and numerous patents, and he has mentored 134 Ph.D. students and 25 postdoctoral researchers. His work has had a profound impact on various areas, including image and video coding, signal analysis, and multimedia data management. Kuo has received several prestigious awards, including the National Science Foundation Young Investigator Award and the Fulbright-Nokia Distinguished Chair in Information Communications Technologies. As an active member of the academic community, he has served on editorial boards and has given numerous invited lectures worldwide. His research and mentoring have greatly influenced the multimedia research community.
