Biography

C.-C. Jay Kuo is a Distinguished Professor in the Thomas Lord Department of Computer Science at the University of Southern California (USC) and holds the Ming Hsieh Chair in Electrical and Computer Engineering. Kuo received his Bachelor’s degree from National Taiwan University in 1980 and his Master's and Doctoral degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1985. He has made substantial contributions in multimedia compression, communication, content analysis, and computer vision, leading various research initiatives including the Multimedia Communication Lab at USC. Over his career, he has supervised 134 PhD students and has numerous publications to his name, including 250 journal articles and 900 conference papers, enhancing his reputation as a top advisor in the field. Kuo has received multiple prestigious awards including the IEEE Fellow and the AAAS Fellow, and has served as Editor-in-Chief for significant journals in the field.
