Biography

C. Forbes Dewey, Jr. holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Yale University, a Master of Science from Stanford University, and a PhD from the California Institute of Technology. He joined the faculty of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering in 1968. Throughout his career, he has been a member of the faculty of Health Sciences & Technology, a joint program between Harvard University and MIT, from 1983 to 2003. He has held visiting positions at several prestigious international academic institutions, including the Institut für Plasmaphysik in Garching, Germany, Imperial College in London, and Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. His primary research focus is on atherosclerosis, where his research group investigates the interactions between endothelial cells and mechanical forces in blood flowing through arteries.
