Biography

C. Darnell Jones is an adjunct professor at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School since 1993. He has a distinguished career as a judge, having been sworn in as a United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania after being nominated by President George W. Bush in 2008. Prior to this, he served as the President Judge of the Court of Common Pleas, the largest judicial district in Pennsylvania where he was responsible for coordinating the courts, including Common Pleas and Municipal Traffic. He began his judicial career in 1987 and held various positions, including Chief of the Family Court Division and managing judge of the Adult Probation and Parole Department. In addition to his judicial responsibilities, Jones has a background in legal education, having taught at institutions like St. Joseph's University and Temple University. He has been involved in developing training curricula for judges presiding over capital cases as part of the Supreme Court’s Capital Case Initiative. A member of various legal boards and committees, he was named one of the 500 leading judges in America by Lawdragon magazine in 2005. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in French from Southwestern College and a J.D. from American University, Washington College of Law.
