Biography

James McKnight is an Associate Professor and Dean at the Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, Boston University, specializing in Pharmacology, Physiology, and Biophysics. He has extensive experience in the study of protein structure, function, and dynamics, including molecular biology techniques, chromatography, and spectroscopy methods. His research focuses on actin binding proteins, particularly those with villin-type headpiece domains, and lipid binding proteins like apolipoprotein B, which is critical in the metabolism of low-density lipoprotein (LDL). McKnight is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion within the scientific community and has played a pivotal role in various initiatives and committees aimed at fostering an inclusive environment at Boston University. He has served as a mentor in programs designed to support underrepresented groups in biomedical sciences, ensuring they have the opportunity to gain critical research experience and advance their careers. His leadership extends to the Graduate Medical Sciences DEI Committee and the Biomedical Sciences Admissions Committee, where he emphasized a holistic approach to evaluating applications.
