Biography

C. Cem Tasan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Materials Science and Engineering from the Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey. He completed his PhD in Mechanical Engineering at the Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands. Following this, he moved to the Max-Planck-Institut für Eisenforschung in Germany, where he was appointed as a postdoc and group leader. He joined the DMSE faculty in 2016 and was granted tenure in 2022. His research expertise lies in international education, materials science, physical metallurgy, solid mechanics, and the characterization of materials. He focuses on the micro-mechanisms of metallic materials and the development of damage-resistant microstructures in alloys.
