Caitlin Margaret Singleton is a Tenure Track Assistant Professor at Aalborg University, working in the Environmental Microbiology section. She leads the Microbiomes Sustainability Restoration group, focusing on the relationship between bacteria and archaea in the natural environment and how microorganisms can help mitigate human impacts. Singleton's research aims to leverage knowledge of these organisms to solve environmental problems related to carbon footprints, green energy, and climate change, thus facilitating ecosystem restoration efforts. She is involved in the Microflora Danica project, which examines the biogeochemical cycles of bacteria and archaea in Denmark, and she is specifically focused on recovering high-quality metagenome-assembled genomes from bacteria and archaea in anaerobic digesters. Previously, she conducted her PhD at the Australian Centre for Ecogenomics under the supervision of Professor Gene Tyson and Dr. Ben Woodcroft, where she was part of an international team exploring microbes in thawing permafrost. Singleton has also received an Honours degree with supervision from Professor Phil Hugenholtz.
