Biography

Calliope Dendrou is an Associate Professor of Clinical Pathology at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, leading the Immune Disease Multiomics Laboratory. She previously held the prestigious Wellcome & Royal Society Sir Henry Dale Fellowship and has been instrumental in the establishment of her research group since its inception in 2017. Calliope graduated with a BSc in Biology (Honours and Forbes Memorial Medal Winner) from Imperial College London in 2005. She completed her PhD in Infection & Immunity at the University of Cambridge in 2010, working in the Diabetes and Inflammation Laboratory under the supervision of Professors Linda Wicker and John Todd FRS. Additionally, she undertook postdoctoral training at the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine in Professor Lars Fugger’s group, focusing on neuroinflammation. Her early research pioneered genotype-to-phenotype studies, exploring significant immune disease-associated genes such as IL2RA, TNFRSF1A, and TYK2. Currently, her research endeavors focus on shared molecular circuits and cellular mechanisms in immune-mediated diseases, employing high-resolution genomic profiling technologies to elucidate cross-disease pathophysiology and identify therapeutic targets. Calliope is involved in large-scale collaborative projects and enjoys teaching on the MSc Genomic Medicine programme, previously serving as co-director for the ‘Single-Cell & Spatial Omics Precision Medicine’ module.
