Biography

Dr. Calvino Cheng is a staff hematopathologist at the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre, Nova Scotia Health Authority, Central Zone (NSHA) in Halifax. He completed his residency in hematological pathology in 2005 at the University of Alberta and earned his interdisciplinary PhD in 2017 from Dalhousie University, focusing on the fields of Computer Sciences and Pathology. He is a Professor in the Department of Pathology at Dalhousie University and serves as the medical director of Blood Transfusion Services and the Pathology Informatics Group (PInG). Dr. Cheng is a member of the Laboratory pan-Canadian Standards Group Standards Collaborative Clinical Sub-Committee and the Chief Medical Information Officer for the Nova Scotia Health Authority. He holds a Certified Professional Healthcare Information Management Systems (CPHIMS-CA) designation. Dr. Cheng's primary research interests include leveraging health information systems' data to uncover new knowledge, enhance patient care, and improve the functionality of the healthcare system.
