Dr. Camden Reeves

Biography

Camden Reeves is a composer of concert music with a background deeply rooted in both classical and jazz traditions. Born in 1974, he spent his childhood in Texas before returning to the UK, where he completed his education. He holds a Bachelor and Master of Music from the University of Exeter and a PhD from the University of York. Camden's compositional output includes orchestral, chamber, and vocal works, with particular recent focus on piano. His compositions have been published by Edition Peters and are available in commercial recordings. Influenced by European and American Modernism, he seeks to combine intricate rhythmic processes with post-serial harmonic approaches. His time studying at the Sibelius Academy was a pivotal experience, fostering his interest in the dynamics of foreground and background within music. Camden is also inspired by nature and has written pieces inspired by aquatic organisms. Additionally, cosmology has begun to shape his exploration of music's relationship with time. He has served in various external academic roles, contributing to the Royal Musical Association and examining doctoral and master's candidates at other institutions. Camden holds a Professor position at the University of Manchester, where he has taught since 2002.
