Biography

Cameron Mankin creates drawings, prints, artist's books, and games that explore the role of rhetoric in shaping public space and personal identity. His work adopts an archaeological approach, dismantling and retooling scraps from sources like old textbooks and discarded CCTV footage with a tongue-in-cheek rigor. Mankin focuses on the narratives of student-to-teacher-to-student exchanges as primary sources in his exploration of how to crack the black box of increasingly streamlined systems we interact with daily. Mankin received a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Art (Printmaking) from the University of Virginia in 2016 and completed his Master of Fine Arts at the University of Chicago in 2020.
