Biography

Cameron McDermott is a Lecturer in Social Change Clinical Legal Education at the University of Glasgow's School of Law. He holds undergraduate and professional qualifications from the University of Glasgow, including an LLB with Class Honours and a Diploma in Professional Legal Practice. Cameron qualified as a solicitor in 2016 and has a background in human rights litigation, policy development, and advocacy. From 2016 to 2020, he served as a legal officer at the European Court of Human Rights, where he worked on a broad array of cases involving immigration and asylum, fair trial rights, and children’s rights. Prior to that, he held legal policy roles at the Equality and Human Rights Commission and with the Children and Young People's Commissioner for Scotland. At the university, Cameron is involved with the Glasgow Open Justice Centre, where he leads the development and management of partnerships for clinic-based projects. He focuses on developing the Law and Social Change Clinic, which takes a human rights-based approach to address social justice issues. Cameron's teaching and research interests include human rights and equality law, socio-economic rights, and access to justice, particularly regarding minority groups and children's rights. He is also keen to develop scholarship in clinical legal education.
