Biography

Camilla Bellone holds a Master's degree in Pharmacy from the University of Milan. In 2002, she joined the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Geneva, specializing in the Department of Basic Neurosciences, focusing on neurophysiology and the cellular mechanisms underlying the development of addictions. She completed her PhD at the University of Milan and had a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of San Francisco. Bellone returned to the UNIGE Faculty of Medicine in 2008 as a lecturer in the Department of Basic Neuroscience. Her research focuses on the molecular mechanisms involved in synaptic plasticity and the effects of addictive substances on the reward system. She has developed a line of research concerning the neural determinants of social behavior in individuals with autism spectrum disorders. Bellone has won several prestigious grants, including the ERC Consolidator Grant in 2019, and she was the recipient of the SNSF Ambizione fellowship in 2011, followed by the SNSF professorship grant in 2014, which enabled her to set up her own laboratory at the University of Lausanne. In 2016, she returned to Geneva as an assistant professor and was appointed associate professor in 2020. She is currently the Coordinator of the Synapsy Centre for Neuroscience Research and Mental Health, which was founded to complete the NCCR Synapsy. As of July 15, 2023, Bellone serves as the Vice-Dean of Basic Research Technology.
