Biography

Camillo Boano is a Professor of Urban Design and Critical Theory at University College London's Bartlett Development Planning Unit. With over 25 years of experience in research and design consultancies, he specializes in the areas of development planning and urban design. Boano has worked extensively in various regions including South America, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and Southeast Asia, undertaking roles in numerous research and consultancy projects. His collaborations span institutions like UNHCR, UNDP, Oxfam GB, and the World Bank, addressing issues related to environmental forced migration, humanitarian urbanism, and post-disaster housing reconstruction. Prior to his tenure at UCL, Boano served as a research fellow at the Refugee Studies Centre at Oxford and engaged with various architectural practices. He has held visiting professor roles at universities including Oxford Brookes University and has contributed as an external supervisor and examiner for PhD dissertations. He holds a doctorate from Oxford Brookes University and multiple degrees in urban development and planning.
