Professor Dr. Camillo Taylor

Biography

Camillo J. Taylor is the Director of the GRASP Lab and the Raymond S. Markowitz President’s Distinguished Professor in the Department of Computer and Information Science at the University of Pennsylvania. His research focuses on computer vision and robotics, particularly in developing techniques for recovering 3-D models from 2-D images, having led to commercially deployed methodologies for architectural modeling. Taylor has engineered algorithms for retrieving the posture of articulated figures from photographs and video footage. His current work includes self-localizing embedded smart camera systems and their applications in automated surveying systems, ad-hoc surveillance systems, and three-dimensional reconstruction in mobile robot localization. Apart from his academic duties, he has been involved in startups such as Augean Robotics, Inc. and NoukaTech, contributing to the advancement of robotics.
