Dr. Campbell Mclachlan

Biography

Campbell McLachlan is a Professor of International Dispute Resolution at the University of Cambridge's Faculty of Law and a Fellow of Trinity Hall. He has a distinguished educational background with an LLB (Hons) from Victoria University of Wellington and a PhD from University College London. His career includes significant legal practice, having served as a partner at Herbert Smith in London and later as chair of law at Victoria University in New Zealand. McLachlan's research is focused on public and private international law, particularly international arbitration. He has held various prestigious positions, including rapporteur for the ILA Committee on International Civil and Commercial Litigation and President of the Australian and New Zealand Society of International Law. He is also an elected member of the American Law Institute and has contributed to the development of legal standards in international investment. His notable works include major publications on international investment arbitration and foreign relations law. McLachlan brings extensive practical experience to his teaching, including appointments as presiding arbitrator in various international arbitral tribunals. In 2022-23, he held the Arthur Goodhart Professorship in Legal Science at Cambridge and is active in supervising PhD students in international law.
