Dr. Cara Exten

Biography

Cara Exten is an Associate Professor at the Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing, Penn State University, specializing in infectious disease epidemiology. Her research utilizes advanced quantitative methods to investigate the biological, structural, social, and behavioral factors that contribute to increased susceptibility to infectious diseases in various populations, with a particular focus on underserved communities. Exten's work aims to conduct translational research that informs both scientific understanding and clinical practice policy. Alongside her research pursuits, she plays an active role in teaching within the nursing department, leading courses on principles of nursing research and population health perspectives. Throughout her career, Exten has mentored numerous students, including DNP and PhD candidates, guiding their academic and professional development.
