Biography

Cara Tannenbaum, M.D., M.Sc., is a geriatrician and researcher at the University Institute of Geriatrics of Montreal. She holds the Michel-Saucier pharmaceutical chair in health and aging and is a professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy and the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Montreal. Dr. Tannenbaum has received numerous national and international distinctions for her exceptional research work in geriatrics, women's health, and gender studies. She is honored to be the scientific director of the Institute of Gender and Health at the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, where she collaborates with researchers and stakeholders to improve health policies and funding opportunities focused on gender and health. Her research interests include the optimization of pharmacotherapy in geriatrics, promoting the role of pharmacists in managing older patients' medications, and addressing ageism in healthcare. She is notably involved in initiatives aimed at reducing inappropriate medication use among seniors. Tannenbaum has been recognized for her contributions to the field, including receiving the May-Cohen award for gender equity in medical education in Canada and the Betty-Havens award for knowledge translation in aging. Since 2015, she has worked on projects that advance scientific understanding, focusing on the unique health needs of older adults, particularly in relation to mental health, cognition, and urinary incontinence, while aiming to combat stigma in these areas.
