Biography

Carey Farquhar, MD, MPH, is a professor at the University of Washington in the Departments of Global Health, Medicine, and Epidemiology. He received his MD from Harvard Medical School and completed his residency and chief residency in internal medicine, followed by a fellowship in infectious diseases at the University of Washington. He earned a Master of Public Health degree at the University of Washington. Currently, he mentors Kenyan trainees and conducts research focused on HIV testing, partner notification services, and access to treatment for HIV and hepatitis C for people who inject drugs. He also explores non-communicable diseases in individuals living with HIV. Farquhar has published more than 260 peer-reviewed papers and serves as Director of the UW Kenya Research Training Center and the International AIDS Research Training Program. In addition to his research and mentoring, he teaches courses in the School of Public Health, covering topics such as HIV from a multidisciplinary perspective and the responsible conduct of research. He also sees patients at the Madison Clinic and attends wards at Harborview Medical Center.
