Biography

Carl-Henrik Bjerstrom is a historian focused on twentieth-century Europe, with a specialization in cultural politics during the interwar period, particularly the 1930s in Spain. His research interests encompass the relationship between aesthetics and political representation, the creation of identity, and the construction of imagined communities within the framework of nation-states. His work emphasizes the mobilization of culture for progressive social change in 20th-century projects. At the University of Copenhagen, he is involved in exploring these themes through a transnational perspective as a postdoctoral researcher in the project 'Foreign Fighters: Past, Present, Future.' He engages with critical historical analysis of cultural phenomena, particularly in the context of significant events like the Spanish Civil War and antifascism.
