Biography

Carl Bernard is an associate teaching professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Cornell University. He teaches a variety of courses in the department, including ECE 3250 (Mathematics of Signals and Systems), ECE 3100 (Introduction to Probability), ECE 3400 (ECE Practice and Design), ECE 4370 (Fiber Integrated Optics), and ECE 4110 (Random Signals, Communications, and Signal Processing). He has also been involved in developing new courses and engaging in research activities. Carl received his Bachelor of Science degree, summa cum laude, in Physics from the University of Québec in Montréal in 1998, his Master of Science in Telecommunications from the National Institute of Scientific Research in Montréal in 2001, a second Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Cornell University in 2004, and his Ph.D. from Cornell in 2006. He joined Cornell in the fall of 2001 and has played a key role in the development and growth of the highly active nanophotonics group led by Michal Lipson, where he advises and mentors students at all levels and is involved in research development and implementation as well as grant writing.
