Carl Duchesne (Ph.D., Engineering in Chemical Engineering) is a full professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Laval University and a member of the Board of Directors of the Research Center for Aluminum – REGAL. His research aims to improve the operation of industrial processes and decision-making through the exploitation of big data in the context of Industry 4.0. His work focuses on the development of multivariate statistical methods with latent variables to design monitoring strategies for processes and quality control. He also applies these methods to the development of virtual sensors and analytical process technologies based on images and other types of instruments. He held the Chair in Leadership in Teaching in Industrial Data Analysis in Chemical Engineering from 2016 to 2021. His research is supported by long-standing industrial collaborations, particularly in the sectors of metal production and material manufacturing, as well as pharmaceutical products. He is a regular member of the Research Center for Aluminum – REGAL, a collaborative member of the Big Data Research Center at Laval University (CRDM), and a member of the Laboratory for Process Observation and Optimization (LOOP) at Laval University.
