Carl Gagnon is a veterinarian graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the Université de Montréal in 1994. He pursued graduate studies in virology and immunology, earning his PhD in 2001 from the INRS Institut-Armand-Frappier. After working as a research agent at the same institution, he became the director of the Experimental Biology Center of INRS from 2003 to 2004. Since 2004, Gagnon has been a professor at the FMV, focusing his research activities primarily on porcine virology. As the scientific director of the Veterinary Virology Diagnostic Laboratory (LDVV) and the Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory (LDM) at FMV, he is highly involved in the diagnosis of viral diseases in animals including swine, bovine, avian, equine, and zoo animals. His research targets viral pathogens that lead to significant economic losses in agriculture, including the Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome Virus and Porcine Influenza Virus.
