Biography

Carl T. Haas is a Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Waterloo and holds a University Research Chair. His research encompasses construction human-robotic systems, infrastructure computer vision, capital projects process analytics, construction productivity, and the circular economy of the built environment. Professor Haas has contributed to over 500 publications, including 215 refereed journal articles, and has worked with several organizations, including NRC, OPG, and Mitacs. He served on multiple editorial boards and committees for professional organizations such as ASCE and NSERC, and he has been recognized as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and the Canadian Academy of Engineering. His numerous awards include the ASCE Peurifoy Construction Research Award in 2015 and the University of Waterloo Award of Excellence in Graduate Supervision in 2017. He has also received the ASCE Computing Civil Engineering Award and the Canadian Society of Civil Engineers’ Alan Russell Award in 2019. Professor Haas has co-edited the prominent publication 'Infrastructure Computer Vision' with Ioannis Brilakis from the University of Cambridge.
