Biography

I am a political philosopher working on theories of distributive justice, including luck egalitarianism and sufficientarianism, as well as theories that challenge distributive justice such as relational egalitarianism. My research interests include applied ethics, climate ethics, bioethics, and ethics of discrimination. I address substantial topics informed by methods in political philosophy, particularly reflective equilibrium. My articles have appeared in leading philosophy and social science outlets including Philosophy Public Affairs, Journal of Moral Philosophy, Oxford Studies in Political Philosophy, Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, Economics and Philosophy, and the British Journal of Political Science. I authored 'Luck Egalitarianism' (Edinburgh University Press, 2009) and 'Leaving Chance' (Oxford University Press, 2025), and co-edited 'Responsibility and Distributive Justice' (with Zofia Stemplowska, Oxford University Press, 2011). Currently, I am working on a monograph about sufficientarianism, and in 2023 I was a visiting fellow at the Centre for Experimental-Philosophical Study of Discrimination at Aarhus University.
