Biography

Carl Young is an Associate Professor in the Department of History at Western University. He completed his PhD at the University of London in 2004. His research focuses on religious social movements, nationalism, and imperialism in modern Asia, particularly in Korea and Japan. Young’s teaching interests cover East and Southeast Asian history, including the history of religion, nationalism, and international relations in Asia. He has contributed to various academic publications, including works on the Tonghak Rebellion and the role of Ch'ondogyo in North Korea. He is passionate about educating students and supporting master’s and doctoral-level research across these areas.
