Dr. Carla Gerona

Biography

Carla Gerona is an Associate Professor in the School of History and Sociology at Georgia Tech, where she specializes in Early American, Atlantic, and Borderlands history. She holds a Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University. Gerona's research interests focus on the cultural intersections and historical narratives shaped by various communities in borderlands contexts. Her notable work includes the book 'Night Journeys: Power Dreams Transatlantic Quaker Culture' (2004), which explores how dissenting groups interpret dreams to influence their perception of the world. She is currently working on a project titled 'More than Six Flags East Texas Pineywoods: Visualizing Borderlands History in the Digital Age,' which aims to investigate the multiethnic interactions and historical narratives in east Texas following its annexation by the United States, utilizing a variety of source materials from Spanish, French, English, and Native American origins. Additionally, Gerona has received several accolades, including the National Endowment for the Humanities Faculty Fellowship and the Newberry Library Fellowships. She is also recognized for her teaching contributions and has been awarded the Provost Teaching and Learning Fellowship (2018-2020). With several articles to her credit, her work is pivotal in understanding the complexities of borderlands history and public history education.
