Biography

Carla Mazzarelli studied modern art history and museology at the University of Rome 3 and the University of Florence. She received scholarships from notable institutions, including the Foundation for the Study of Art History "Roberto Longhi" and the Courtauld Institute in London. She obtained her PhD in History of Conservation of Works of Art and Architecture from the University of Rome 3 in 2005. Following her doctoral studies, she worked as a postdoctoral researcher and has held a professorship in Art History at the University of Calabria. Currently, she teaches modern art history at the Istituto di Studi Italiani (ISI) at the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI). Her research focuses on classical traditions from the 17th to the 19th centuries, exploring transmission models and the reproducibility of art during the early modern period. Mazzarelli has received the 2014 Research Support Grant from the Paul Mellon Centre for British Art at Yale University and obtained Italian qualification as an Associate Professor in 2018. Her recent publications include titles that examine the evolution of art and its historiography, alongside themes of reproduction, urban history, and the iconography of cities.
