Dr. Carlo Ciliberto

Biography

Carlo Ciliberto is an Associate Professor specializing in Machine Learning at University College London. He obtained his bachelor's and master's degrees in Mathematics from Università Roma Tre, graduating with Magna Cum Laude. He completed his PhD focused on machine learning, applied robotics, and computer vision at Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia. His postdoctoral research was conducted at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he was associated with the Center for Brain Minds and Machines. Following this, he served as a Lecturer at Imperial College London before joining UCL. Ciliberto's research interests primarily revolve around foundational aspects of machine learning within the framework of statistical learning theory. He specifically investigates the role of structure, including prior knowledge and structural constraints, in reducing sample complexity in learning algorithms, making them more sustainable both computationally and financially. His work includes exploring structured prediction, multi-task and meta-learning, as well as applications in computer vision, robotics, and recommendation systems.
