Carlo Maria Scandolo graduated from the University of Padua, Italy, earning a BSc in Physics in 2012, followed by an MSc in Theoretical Physics in 2014. His master’s thesis focused on entanglement in general probabilistic theories under the supervision of Giulio Chiribella. During his studies, he was part of the Galilean School of Higher Education, a prestigious program that admits top students for enhanced university education. After graduating, he spent a year at Tsinghua University in Beijing, continuing collaborative research with Chiribella. In 2015, he commenced his DPhil at the University of Oxford, working on quantum information foundations under Jonathan Barrett, completing it in 2018 with a thesis on informational foundations of thermodynamics in general probabilistic theories. Scandolo joined the University of Calgary in 2018 as a postdoctoral associate. In September 2020, he became an assistant professor and was promoted to associate professor in July 2023, working in the Department of Mathematics & Statistics and the Institute for Quantum Science and Technology. His research interests include quantum information theory, quantum resource theories, and the foundations of quantum mechanics, with a focus on exploring the potential and limitations of quantum resources and entanglement in novel quantum technologies.
