Biography

Carlos Mauricio Castano Diaz is an Assistant Professor in the Learning Sciences at Aalborg University, specializing in the intersection of psychology and media. His academic journey began with a degree in Psychology from Universidad de Antioquia, followed by a Master’s in Cognition and Communication from the University of Copenhagen. He earned his PhD in Learning Sciences at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, focusing on how multiplayer online battle arenas can foster scientific reasoning. With over twelve years of research experience in Developmental Psychology, Cognitive Sciences, and Media Psychology, Carlos has contributed significantly to understanding media phenomena, such as internet memes and their psychological implications. He actively participates in interdisciplinary research and teaching, involving game design and cognitive development processes. His expertise aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in education, as he employs innovative multimedia-based learning principles, problem-based learning strategies, and ARIPE methods in his teaching. Carlos has also served as an external examiner at the University of Gothenburg and has participated in various consultancy projects aimed at enhancing educational outcomes through psychological insights and media research practices.
