Biography

Professor Coimbra received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Aerospace Engineering from the University of California, Irvine. He joined the Jacobs School of Engineering at UC San Diego in July of 2011. As a member of the faculty, he is actively involved in advancing research in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. He serves as the Co-Director of the UCSD Center for Excellence in Renewable Resource Integration (CERRI) and has held the position of Chairman of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. His research focuses on various critical areas within energy systems, particularly heat mass transfer, energy meteorology, atmospheric radiation, cloud physics, and multiphase flows. Additionally, he utilizes stochastic modeling and forecasting techniques, as well as variable order methods in his work. Through his research, he contributes to the development of innovative solutions in concentrated solar power and real-time forecasting of atmospheric conditions.
