Dr. Carlos Fernandez Pello

Biography

Carlos Fernandez-Pello is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley. He holds the Almy C. Maynard Agnes Offield Maynard Endowed Chair. His research interests primarily focus on combustion and fire safety, including ignition fire spread, smoldering transitions, and the safety of spacecraft and aircraft in fire situations. He also investigates wildland fire propagation, spotting, and the dynamics of liquid fuel pool burning. Additionally, he explores self-heating ignition processes and small-scale energy generation methods, including the combustion of biofuels. Through his work in the Combustion Fire Processes Laboratory, Professor Fernandez-Pello addresses crucial safety issues and innovative energy solutions.
