Biography

Carlos Gonzalez, DDS, MSD, PhD, is the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Richard Christiansen Collegiate Professor of Oral Craniofacial Global Initiatives at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. He joined the institution in 2009 after 13 years at Indiana University where he taught and conducted research. Dr. Gonzalez has played a significant role as the discipline coordinator for cariology and has directed both pre-doctoral and graduate courses in the field. His work focuses on enhancing global service learning opportunities, and from 2015 to 2020, he led various initiatives for dental students to learn in diverse environments. In his current role, which he has held since July 2020, he oversees educational program development, curriculum management, and faculty academic support, while also being actively involved in clinical and laboratory research projects. His research interests include professionally applied anticaries products and translational caries models, collaborating with institutions worldwide. Dr. Gonzalez also treats patients in the dental faculty associates clinic at the School of Dentistry.
