Biography

He received his Bachelor degree in Industrial Engineering with a specialization in Electrical Engineering from the University of Sevilla in Spain. He received a Master's degree in Applied Mathematics from Ecole Centrale Paris in France and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, San Diego. He worked as a Senior Postdoctoral Engineer at the Office National d'Etudes et de Recherches Aerospatiales in France from 2000 to 2001, then moved to the California Institute of Technology as a senior post-doctoral associate and senior research scientist in 2006. He has been a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign since 2018. He received the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) in 2006. He is currently an Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and a member of the American Physical Society (APS), Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM), and the Combustion Institute. He serves on editorial boards for the AIAA Journal, Combustion Theory, and Modeling Journal of Fluid Mechanics.
