Biography

Carlos Pardo de la Hoz is a research scholar at the Lutzoni Lab, working under the mentorship of Joao Xavier at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. His research focuses on microbial interactions within the human gut, examining the complex relationships that define these ecosystems. He has a particular interest in the symbiotic systems involving fungi and photosynthetic organisms, particularly lichens and microbiomes. Carlos has adopted an interdisciplinary approach that bridges evolutionary biology, ecology, and genomics, leading to an expanded research program that includes endophytic fungi found in lineages of land plants and endolichenic fungi located within lichen thalli. His work includes both intensive fieldwork-based surveys and experimental laboratory investigations across broad spatio-temporal scales.
