Carlos E. Ramos Scharrón specializes in hydro-geomorphology, terrestrial carbon sediment budgets, watershed analyses, and the impacts of land use change and natural hazards on human-environment dynamics. After earning a Bachelor of Science in Geology from the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez in 1993, he completed his Ph.D. in Watershed Sciences at Colorado State University in 2004. Since joining the faculty at the University of Texas at Austin in 2013, he has focused on the environmental impacts of human-modified landscapes, particularly within the Insular Caribbean and Latin America. His research investigates accelerated soil erosion, degraded water quality, and impacts on coral reef habitats due to urbanization and agricultural activities. He has been a principal investigator and collaborator on projects funded by NOAA, NASA, and the National Science Foundation, addressing climate change-induced water scarcity in the Caribbean. He is also involved in several collaborative initiatives related to climate adaptation and landslide geohazards.
