Dr. Carly Nowicki

Biography

Carly Nowicki is a Lecturer IV in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Michigan. She earned her B.S. in Molecular Cellular Biology from the University of Michigan and her Ph.D. in Aquatic Ecology from Wayne State University. With a strong background in aquatic ecology and environmental health, she has held various academic and research positions including assistant professor of biology at Madonna University and postdoctoral scientist at the U.S. Geological Survey. Additionally, she has volunteered with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Carly teaches courses such as BIO 173, an introduction to biology lab, and EEB/ENVIRON 372, focusing on practical ecological labs and experiments. She emphasizes the importance of environmental literacy and engages students in active learning through research. Her specific research interests include the development and application of bioassessment molecular tools for evaluating environmental health and ecological risk assessment.
