Dr. Carmel Mothersill

Biography

Carmel Emelia Mothersill is a trained zoologist who obtained her PhD in muscle biochemistry from University College Dublin, Ireland in 1976. She began her career in radiobiology at the Physics Department of Dublin Institute of Technology. Her early work included a postdoctoral fellowship at St Luke’s Hospital Dublin in the radiotherapy centre under a joint agreement with DIT. Dr. Mothersill has made significant contributions in the field of atmospheric radiation and radiative transfer, focusing on cancer genomics. She holds the position of Professor Emeritus at McMaster University, Hamilton, where she has also served as a Canada Research Chair in Radiobiology. Her academic appointments reflect her substantial involvement in both research and teaching in her areas of expertise.
