Biography

Professor Pestell joined the School of Psychological Science at the University of Western Australia (UWA) in 2013, initially working part-time and becoming full-time in 2019. She is a registered Clinical Psychologist and Clinical Neuropsychologist and has held significant roles in public health as Director of the state-wide Neurosciences Unit from 1996 to 2010. Professor Pestell managed a secondment at the Complex Attention Hyperactivity Disorders Service. She returned to the Neurosciences Unit as a Clinical Neuropsychologist, later becoming Director of clinical research programmes in the North Metropolitan Health Service. In her academic role, she has coordinated multiple units, contributing to curriculum development, extensive clinical supervision, and the Graduate Certificate in Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) diagnosis. With 25 years of experience as a postgraduate lecturer at UWA and other institutions, she oversees numerous teaching commitments and has developed a significant research portfolio with over 110 outputs. Her research focuses on neuropsychological outcomes in neurodevelopmental disorders and brain injuries across the lifespan, aiming to improve diagnosis and intervention management. Professor Pestell has secured substantial research funding and is affiliated with multiple external research partnerships, contributing actively to teaching and community engagement in her fields of expertise.
