Biography

Carmen Dege’s work is situated at the intersection of critical theory, political phenomenology, and epistemology, with a focus on democratic environmental thought. She probes the role of myth, ignorance, and opacity in the face of humanity’s inability to act on overwhelming scientific evidence regarding human-caused climate change. Dege pays special attention to the history of politics surrounding myth debates, ideology critique, and conspiracy theories, particularly in relation to reason, perception, and emotion. She received her PhD in Political Theory from Yale University in 2019. Prior to joining Radboud University in January 2024, she served as a postdoctoral fellow at the Polonsky Academy at the Van Leer Jerusalem Institute and as a visiting scholar at the Remarque Institute of New York University and the Minda de Gunzburg Center for European Studies at Harvard University.
