Biography

Carmen LeBlanc joined the Department of French at Carleton University in July 2007 after completing her graduate studies at the University of Ottawa, where she specialized in variationist historical sociolinguistics and obtained her Ph.D. She has authored and contributed to several publications focusing on the varieties of French spoken in North America and has received various grants for her research, including SSHRC's Insight Grant and Partnership Grant. Her teaching experience includes courses on French language and dialectology, and her research interests encompass morphosyntactic variation, grammaticalization, and the relationship between linguistic norms and community identity, particularly as it pertains to Acadian French. LeBlanc has also been active in presenting her findings at numerous linguistic conferences and has collaborated with other researchers in the field.
